Outdoor carpet and rugs cleaning tips, Yonkers, NY
When it’s time to spend less time inside the home and more time outdoors, it also means cleaning your outdoor furniture and accessories, especially any outdoor rugs or carpeting in Westchester County and the NYC area. Although outdoor carpeting on patios, in backyard living rooms (and as dirt catchers at entry doors) are made to withstand the elements, they still need intermittent cleaning to stay fresh.
Here are some outdoor carpet cleaning tips to get your backyard oasis ready for the season
Remember to always check labels and test clean in an inconspicuous area. Most outdoor rugs are made of durable synthetic fibers, like olefin or polypropylene and can be kept clean using ordinary household products.
Cleaning: Vacuum completely before washing. Wash carpet with a gentle detergent and lukewarm water. Rinse with a hose. If you plan to use a carpet cleaning machine, follow instructions and read warranties before substituting commercial carpet cleansers with home remedies.
Stains: Sprinkle baking soda on the stain(s), then add vinegar until it bubbles. Scrub lightly with a brush, wait about 15 minutes and vacuum. You can also create a paste with baking soda and water, apply, and allow the paste to lift the stain. Vacuum when dry.
Mold & Mildew: Although outdoor rugs and carpeting are made to withstand mold and mildew, if it does appear, apply a 50-50 mixture of vinegar and water to the area and allow to dry.
Just like your indoor carpeting, periodic professional cleaning of your outdoor rugs is recommended to keep them looking their best. Learn more about carpet and texiles from NYC’s Best Cleaning Experts since 1994.
